Our unique health promotion service aims to help teach performers to avoid health problems altogether.
For music teachers we are starting a new workshop programme, presenting practical advice on healthy lifestyles and sensible and effective practise. Passing on this advice can make a huge difference to students’ futures. Workshops can be customised for any teaching environment – schools, private homes, conservatoires, universities, further, youth and community music education.
For professional performers and students at all levels we offer a wide range of highly participative lecture and workshop options, with practical sessions and opportunity for questions and discussion.
We offer the following health education packages. All are free except for the core teachers’ service:
GETTING TO GRIPS WITH GOOD PRACTICE
Our core service for teachers, costing £150 (with discounts for group bookings), and comprising
(a) a teachers pack (manual plus CD-ROM)
(b) a half day training session putting performance-related injury in context and focusing on musculoskeletal problems and
(c) follow up support (answering questions by phone and email).
GETTING ON TOP OF GOOD PRACTICE
This enables teachers to explore all aspects of musicians’ health in greater depth, including lifestyle, hearing, musculoskeletal problems, mental health, plus discipline specific sessions for string/guitar, keyboard, voice, woodwind /brass and percussion.
PLAY SAFE, PLAY SOUND covers the themes listed above, but adapted for professional musicians, HE and FE students.
A HOP, A SKIP AND A JUMP is a super-quick guide to posture, warm up, structured practising and basic music ergonomics for HE and FE music students and professional musicians.
JUNIOR HEALTH is another quickie healthy practice tour, this time for musicians aged 11 to 18 attending junior conservatoires and community music projects.
