Helen Whitaker is a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist and accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). She holds a qualification in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Counselling from the University of Brighton, and a Masters in Music Performance from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. She has over 20 years of experience in the music industry, and 8 years of clinical experience as a therapist. She has worked with musicians and those in the music industry, and has first hand knowledge of the challenges faced by people in the performing arts. She has consulted for music charity Help Musicians UK, and currently works as a wellbeing advisor to a number of music conservatoires.
Helen works in a trauma-informed way, and her areas of expertise include depression, anxiety, self-esteem, relationships, family problems, parenting and perinatal mental health, performance anxiety and stress. Helen has also trained as a CBT therapist, and can offer short term CBT, or a blend of CBT and psychotherapy where appropriate. This can be particularly effective for issues around anxiety, PTSD and OCD.
