Lauren Fekete is a physiotherapist with an MSc in Physiotherapy from Aberdeen and a Master’s degree in Dance Science. During this time she assisted and shadowed the lead physiotherapist for Scottish Ballet and began working within the NHS, specialising in musculoskeletal physiotherapy. Lauren has since developed her experience in treating a myriad of conditions by also working as a freelance physiotherapist with Scottish Ballet and in a private practice specialising in back/spinal pain.
Recently, Lauren has completed an academic year working as a physiotherapist and lecturer in anatomy at English National Ballet School. She has now begun working as a freelance physiotherapist with Central School of Ballet alongside her role at Pure Sports Medicine, where she has started up a multidisciplinary Dance & Performing Arts Medicine service.
Lauren's experience in dance training and performance together with her educational background has resulted in a deeper understanding of the physical and psychological impacts of high performance demands on the human body. Lauren has also attended conferences worldwide (including IADMS and Physios in Sport’s ‘Hypermobility and Control’) in order to enhance her comprehension of physiotherapy for diverse athletes and performers.
Lauren draws on coaching and interpersonal skills to empower individuals of all fitness levels in achieving their goals through personalised treatment programmes and education. Her special interests lie within injury prevention and rehabilitation of performing artists and athletes, and she utilises astute observational skills to thoroughly assess biomechanical disparities and movement patterns for all manner of clientele. Overall, Lauren aims to utilise her experience in order to approach injury prevention and rehabilitation in a more unique, holistic, and meaningful way.
Lauren provides treatment for muscle sprains/strains, tendon issues (tendinitis, tendinopathy), iImpingement’ (shoulder, hip, ankle, etc.), bony stress response/stress fractures (tibia, metatarsals, neck of femur, vertebral, etc.), post-operative cases, overuse injuries, traumatic injuries (ankle sprains, fractures, etc.), RED-S/RED-D (in conjunction with MDT), generalised joint hyper-mobility, joint instability. She also provides manual therapy (mobilisations, myofascial release, massage), exercise prescription, short and long-term programme planning, motivational interviewing, blood flow restriction training (BFR), and force decks/ force plate testing.
