Discharge from BAPAM Mental Health Services and Further Accessible Support

About this Page:

We hope you found the sessions with your BAPAM therapist helpful. This online resource is intended to supplement the information given to you by your therapist in your final sessions regarding further support and onward care.

BAPAM’s Mental Health Support in a Crisis page gives further advice on finding immediate help in a crisis.

1. NHS Care

The NHS can support you in sustaining good long term mental health. This includes a 24 hour helpline for support which can be found for people in England here, in Scotland here, for Wales here and in Northern Ireland here.

We strongly recommend that if you feel you still have ongoing needs for support that you make a routine appointment with your GP practice to discuss your healthcare needs. The NHS has access to local talking therapies, or your GP practice can refer you on to the community mental health team for a wider range of multidisciplinary help when needed.

If you are registered with an NHS GP, you can self-refer to NHS talking therapies – Find an NHS talking therapies services – NHS (www.nhs.uk)

Importantly, if your mental health deteriorates and you need urgent help, you should call your GP surgery, call 111 or, in an emergency, attend A&E. Our Mental Health Support in a Crisis page gives further advice.

2. Funding support for private care

Our Sources of Financial and Practical Support page gives you information on how you may be able to access further funding support for performers to access care from independent practitioners including those listed in the BAPAM Directory. Your BAPAM therapist can provide a summary of your therapy which may help with your application.

3. Self-Directed Care

Your therapist will have provided you with tools to help you as you move forward. If you are looking for more self-help tools then there are things you can do from buying books or looking at on-line activities for mental health support. The NHS have published more details here.

BAPAM offers group psychological self-care workshops, in partnership with Help Musicians and Equity, which are free to join and listed on our Training and Events page.

Our free factsheets and health resources are all online here: Health Resources | Bapam

4. More Services

There are other services that may provide mental health support for free or at reduced cost. We have listed a number of services below.

Your NHS GP surgery may be able to identify helpful services in your area.
